Systems, apparatus, and methods may provide technology that obtains categorization information and corresponding uncertainty information from a perception subsystem, where the categorization information and corresponding uncertainty information is associated with an object in an environment. The technology may also determine whether the corresponding uncertainty information meets one or more relevance criteria and automatically control the perception subsystem to increase accuracy in one or more subsequent categorizations of the object if the corresponding uncertainty information meets the one or more relevance criteria. In one example, upon determining whether the corresponding uncertainty information meets the relevance criteria, multiple samples are taken from the categorization information and the corresponding uncertainty information, multiple operation plans are generated based on the multiple samples, and a safety deviation is determined across the multiple operation plans, the relevance criteria being met, if the safety deviation exceeds a threshold.
