The present invention relates to a diesel engine and a method for operating a diesel engine. Diesel engines include a diesel particulate filter in the exhaust gas line. In order to determine the amount of particles reduced by the CRT effect in the diesel particulate filter, a NO sensor and/or a NO x sensor is arranged in the exhaust gas line, upstream and downstream of the diesel particulate filter. In the method, the corresponding NO and/or NO 2 concentrations are measured upstream and downstream of the diesel particulate filter.
