An application development method and an application development platform. The method comprises: a user selecting a component from a component toolkit, wherein an application development platform is installed in an electronic device, a component orchestration designer can create a component and display the composition of the component, the component can be composed of a component main body and one or more connecting points, and the connecting points support one or more data entity types; the user connecting a first component and a second component in an interface of the component orchestration designer, and in response to said operation, the component orchestration designer connecting the first component and the second component; and the user choosing, in the component orchestration designer, to compile a component, the connection of which is completed, and in response to said operation, a code generation engine compiling a plurality of components, which are displayed in the component orchestration designer and the connection of which is completed, into codes that can be executed by an application. In this way, a developer quickly combines a plurality of existing components into an application needing to be developed by a user, and functional logic of the application is realized without writing program codes one by one.
