The present invention relates to a method for measuring the concentration of an anti-fouling additive in a flow of saline water circulating in a desalination plant comprising the steps of: (a) supplying a flow of saline water comprising at least one anti-fouling additive to a desalination plant to produce at least one flow of brine and one flow of desalinated water; (b) acquiring at least one NIR spectrum of one of said flows of saline water and brine; (c) calculating a concentration value of said anti- fouling additive by means of a calibration curve that correlates the NIR spectrum with concentration values of said additive. The present invention also relates to a method for preventing or controlling the fouling of a desalination plant and a desalination plant in which the above- mentioned method for measuring an anti-fouling additive and the above-mentioned method for the prevention and control of fouling, are applied.
