To improve signal-to-noise ratio of cameras in applications of lowlight imaging, such as fluorescence and surgical microscopy.SOLUTION: In a microscope system 200, a signal-to-noise ratio adjustment circuit 210 is configured to determine whether a signal-to-noise ratio of a first image is below a first threshold, and to determine whether a variation of imaged content between the first image and a preceding second image of a video sequence is below a second threshold. The signal to noise ratio adjustment circuit is further configured to generate a third image having an increased signal-to-noise ratio as compared to the first image or the second image if the signal-to-noise ratio is below the first threshold and the variation is below the second threshold.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
