A method for maintaining the connection of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (hereinafter – eNOS) to reduce the frequency or severity of lung damage induced by artificial blood circulation due to the formation of free radicals in a patient during artificial blood circulation includes injecting the patient with the effective amount of citrulline before, during and after surgery. Citrulline injected at the beginning of surgery is about 100-500 mg/kg of citrulline. Citrulline injected during surgery is added to substitution fluid for hemoconcentration during surgery.
