A cyanine fluorophore containing nine carbon polymethine bridges is disclosed.The cyanine fluorophore has absorption and / or emission maxima in the near-infrared (NIR) and shortwave (SWIR) wavelength ranges.A method of producing and using a cyanine fluorophore is disclosed.The compound is useful in fluorescence imaging, more specifically, cancer treatment.The compound has general formula (I).In some embodiments, the cyanine fluorophore compound has a chemical structure by formula I or its stereoisomer or pharmaceutically acceptable salt.
