The method involves introducing a lambda probe in exhaust gas flow, placing a zirconium oxide solid electrolyte tube and providing cell voltage as function of time based on calculation rule by which oxygen content in exhaust gas is determined, and calculation rule by which proportion of carbon monoxide is detected in exhaust gas. The equilibrium value is used for determining equilibrium portion, and the non-equilibrium value is used for determining non-equilibrium portion, carbon component in exhaust gas, and volume concentration. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a control device; and (2) a regeneratively fired industrial furnace.
