Safety device, door, fire safety systems, and method of indicating the status of a door, and of improving fire safety

A safety device 100a for fitting to a door 10. The device includes an indicator 110 configured to indicate in use the status of the door for passage, wherein the indicator is adjustable based on event information, such as an emergency event like a fire or gas leak. The device also includes a receiver (130, figure.5) operable to receive event information, a controller (120, figure.5) configured to control the indicator 110, and a power supply (140, figure.5). An indicator housing (150, figure.21) is provided which houses the receiver, controller, and power supply and which houses at least part of the indicator. The device may be retrofitted to an existing door. A method is provided to install the device into a recess (not numbered) of the door. Alternatively, the device (100, figure.1) may be integrated into the door. There is a method provided to indicate the status of the safety device integrated into the door. The device may also indicate a direction to go to follow an exit path of the door, where the indicator is a directional indicator. The indicator may include a light source which may indicate the status of the door.
