A device and related method relates to providing safety power to electrical equipment operating in a hazardous location. Safety power is power whose current and voltage are both limited to provide insufficient energy to ignite combustible gas or dust in a hazardous area. Safety power is provided by first limiting the voltage of the operating power provided by the power source. Thereafter, the voltage-limited operating power is current-limited by the current-limiting device. Current and voltage-limited operating power is converted to step-down power through a current-limiting network. The step-down power is then voltage-limited by a second voltage limiting device. In some embodiments, the current limiting network is a current mode step-down regulator.
