A steam wand assembly (100) includes a steam wand (101) having a main body tube (120), and a support fixture (102) for retaining the steam wand (101). The support fixture (102) has a socket (104) and the steam wand (101) has a ball (103) at one end received in the socket (104) such that the wand (101) is rotatable between a home position and an extended position. The socket (104) has a slot and the ball (103) has a fin (203) retained in the slot to restrain the wand (101) from side to side motion (113) when in the home position, and the fin (203) exits the slot when the wand (101) rotates to the extended position to permit side to side motion (113).
