Uses of echo-generating coatings for ultrasound imaging of medical devices in deep tissue layers

The present invention relates to the use of an echogenic coating composition in a medical device that is inserted into the body to a depth greater than 5 cm, (i) a polymer matrix and (ii) a predetermined amount of ultrasonically-reflective microparticles having a diameter of at least 10 μm and a maximum of 250 μm, in which a relationship between particle size and surface density, denoted D 50 , is defined. The present invention also relates to a method for ultrasound detection of a medical device at a scan depth greater than 5 cm by providing the echo generating coating composition to a medical device and to an echo generating assembly comprising the medical device and a convex probe.
