The present invention is a novel novel having enhanced anti-neoplasia activity, resistance to immune suppression, and reduced risk of inducing a graft-versus-host response or a host-to-graft response, or a combination thereof. Genetically modified immune cells comprising an adenosine base editor (eg, ABE8) are characterized. The invention also features methods of generating and using such modified immune effector cells.
