Rapid improvement of endothelial function, reduction of arterial stiffness and reversal of vascular calcification by vitamin K administration

A method of rapidly improving cardiovascular function, reducing arterial stiffness, and reversing vascular calcification in a mammal, comprising administering to the mammal an effective amount of vitamin K for a period of less than 2 weeks to less than 6 months. Further, a method of increasing endothelial nitric oxide production in a mammal comprising administering to the mammal an effective amount of vitamin K for a period of 2 to 8 weeks. The vitamin K may be administered together with an additional substance such as vitamin D.
