The system comprises a reinforcement grid comprising a first plurality of spaced parallel rods 103, a plurality of masonry units each comprising an interior face defining at least one keying feature 307, and a plurality of positioning elements 701 each comprising a receiving feature 703 for receiving one of the rods and having one or more keying members 705a, 705b for keying with the keying features of the masonry units. The grid may comprise a second plurality of rods 105 at 45 degrees to the first rods. The keying features may be slots.
