A method of early detection of risk of pre-eclampsia in a pregnant woman comprises the steps of determining the blood pressure and body mass index (BMI) of the pregnant woman, and optionally sex of the fetus, at 8 to 24weeks of pregnancy, comparing the BMI with a reference BMI, and comparing the blood pressure input with a reference blood pressure, and providing a risk of pre-eclampsia and in particular term or pre-term pre-eclampsia based on the comparison.
