An embodiment includes the steps of designating a target block among a plurality of blocks of a depth image; selecting a reference block or a reference pixel within the reference block from among the plurality of blocks; detecting a first plane modeling factor of a predetermined selected reference block or a reference pixel of the selected reference block; predicting a second planar modeling factor of the target block based on the first planar modeling factor; predicting depth values of pixels in the target block based on the second planar modeling factor; and encoding the target block.
