The optical box (CX) comprises a tubular housing (10) having a closed end (10a) and an open end (10b) with an external thread (11), and a cover (20) designed to be fastened and locked on the open end (10b) of the tubular housing (10) by a retaining ring (50) with an internal thread (51) that is designed to engage with the external thread (11) of the housing (10), and a locking element (55) that is designed to engage with the lock-receiving element (25) of the cover (20), locking the retaining ring (50) to the cover (20) and to the housing (10). The cover (20) is traversed by an input adapter (AE) that can be coupled to an optical distribution cable (CD) and by output adapters (AS) in which user terminal cables (CT) can be coupled.
