The present invention relates to a compound of formula (1) wherein the benzophenone is substituted with a hydroxyl-terminated alkylene oxide group (R): One In the above formula, R is a combination of 1 to 13 propylene oxide groups and 5 to 20 ethylene oxide groups, provided that the sum of the propylene oxide groups and ethylene oxide groups is 25 or less. The compounds of the present invention provide non-volatile, non-toxic photoinitiators that provide good gloss retention in exterior architectural coatings.
