Disclosed herein is a method for providing in situ chemical transformation and ionization of an inorganic oxidizing agent in a sample through an analyte detection system. The method includes introducing a gas through an inlet into an ionization source of an analyte detection system. The method further comprises generating ions in the ionization source and passing the gas and the generated ions through the ionization source to deliver them to the sample. The sample is located close to the ionization source in the surrounding environment. The ions chemically react with the sample to desorb and ionize the analyte from the sample, wherein the analyte is generated from an inorganic oxidizing agent, and the desorbed analyte has a lower melting point and/or a better desorption reaction rate than the inorganic oxidizing agent ( desorption kinetics). The method further comprises receiving the desorbed analyte through an analyzer of the analyte detection system.
