An air disinfectant for disinfecting air in a room accessible to persons, comprising:a housing with an air inlet, an air outlet, and air disinfectants, the air disinfectants for disinfecting the air flowing through the housing from the air inlet to the air outlet, in order to obtain disinfected air, the air disinfectants having an UV light source, emits UV-C light; andair carriers for the transport of air from the air inlet to the air outlet, the means of transport being so arranged that the air disinfection device operates in accordance with the principle of air displacement, setting an air flow rate of the disinfected air from the air outlet, the air is evenly distributed from the air outlet and the mixing of disinfected air with ambient air is minimised;where the air outlet is located below the air inlet and preferably at a ground level of the room; andwhere the air disinfection device is a separate, independent unit which can be connected to the connecting network, for example by means of a network cable.
