The invention relates to a feed material processing device (10) designed to apply, distribute and compact feed material (1) in defined layer heights, in particular for dam, dike and/or road construction, the feed material processing device comprising: - a chassis (20) having at least one travel drive (23) and at least one running gear (21, 22); - a frame structure (30) which provides a working width for the feed material processing device; - a material feed device (40) coupled to the frame structure or supported against same; - a material distribution device (50), which is coupled to the material supply device, is movable at least in some sections over the working width, in particular in a central region thereof, is mounted on the frame structure, and can be positioned at a multiplicity of application positions within the working width; wherein the material distribution device is designed to apply the feed material in layers on the ground in various specifiable height positions within the working width, wherein the feed material processing device further comprises: - a control device which is designed to control the material distribution device, in particular designed to adjust the layer thickness of a feed material applied in layers; - a compacting device (60) which is movably mounted on the frame structure and/or on the material distribution device and which is in material flow connection with the material supply device; - wherein the control device is further designed to control a/the particular path of movement of the compacting device and of the material distribution device, in a manner depending on one another, within the working width. The invention also relates to a method for applying, distributing and compacting feed material (1) in defined layer heights.
