Improvement of power management and voltage shortage protection of portable point of sale (POS) devices at low temperatures.The POS device comprises a processor, a battery, a transaction object reader, a printer with a printer controller, and an optional temperature sensor.The processor determines the current discharge capability rate of the battery based on the temperature measured by the temperature sensor.The processor also calculates a first predictive power consumption rate based on at least one of the first set values of the components of the POS device such as printers.If the first predicted power consumption rate is very close to the current discharge capability rate of the battery, the second predicted power consumption rate is calculated based on the second set value of one or more components.If the second prediction power consumption rate is no longer dangerous to the current discharge capability rate of the battery, the component is set to the second set value.Diagram
