The invention concerns a process and a circuit device (AD) for the detection of an asymmetry or symmetry of phase voltages (UL1, UL2, UL3) of a multi-phase current network (SN).In order to achieve rapid and reliable detection, it is intended that the instantaneous phase voltage values (UL1, UL2, UL3) are detected by means of an asymmetric detector (AD), where the instantaneous values of all phase voltages (UL1, UL2, UL3)are detected without interruption of approximately the same size over an actuation delay time dT u ev, a detection signal indicating the symmetry is generated and then, if the instantaneous value is only one of the phase voltages (UL1,UL2, UL3) below a target value, essentially without delay a detection signal indicating asymmetry is generated.
