Disclosed in the present invention are an energy equalization apparatus, a method, and a battery management system, applied to a battery unit pack; the battery unit pack at least comprises a first battery unit and a second battery unit connected in series; and the state of charge of the first battery unit is higher than the state of charge of the second battery unit; the apparatus comprises: a controller and an equalization circuit; the equalization circuit at least comprises: a first energy storage element and a second energy storage element; the controller is used when the equalization circuit is in communication with the first battery unit for controlling the first energy storage element and the second energy storage element to be connected in parallel, and storing energy provided by the first battery unit to the equalization circuit; the transfer rate for energy from a battery unit having a relatively high state of charge to an energy storage element is thereby improved. The controller is further used when the equalization circuit is in communication with the second battery unit for controlling the first energy storage element and the second energy storage element to be connected in series, and transmitting the energy provided by the first battery unit from the equalization circuit to the second battery unit; the transfer rate for energy from an energy storage element to the second battery unit is thereby improved.
