System for membrane fouling control configured to run one or more filter cycles, wherein each filter cycle of the one or more filter cycles comprises an operation mode and a cleaning mode, the system comprising: a first conduct portion (2); a second conduct portion (3); a membrane (1) arranged between the first conduct portion (2) and the second conduct portion (3), the membrane (1) is configured in the operation mode to filter a liquid to be filtered by conducting it from the first conduct portion (2) to the second conduct portion (3); and a fouling control means (4) filled with fouling control particles (6) and configured for adding in the operation mode the fouling control particles (6) in the first conduct portion (2) so that a dynamic protective layer (7) is formed on the membrane (1) by the fouling control particles (6) for protecting the membrane (1) from foulants (10), when the liquid to be filtered is conducted through the membrane (1); wherein the system is configured in the operation mode to create a liquid flow which conducts the liquid to be filtered from the first conduct portion (2) through the membrane (1) to the second conduct portion (3), wherein the system is configured in the cleaning mode to create a reverse liquid flow which conducts the liquid in the second conduct portion (2) through the membrane (1) into the first conduct portion (2), wherein the fouling control particles (6) comprise mineral particles based on calcium and/or magnesium; wherein the d10 of the size distribution of the fouling control particles (6) is larger than a defined pore size of the membrane (1); and wherein the d90 of the size distribution of the fouling control particles is smaller than 15 µm.
