The present invention addresses the problem of providing an iron powder for treating contaminated water, whereby heavy metals and fluorine in contaminated water can be removed. The iron powder for treating contaminated water pertaining to the present invention for removing heavy meals in contaminated water has, in particles thereof, an iron-based precipitate having iron as the main component thereof and including at least one of silicon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, and chromium.
