The present invention relates to a method and system for object recognition through computer vision applications, wherein the system 100 comprises at least the following components: an object to be recognized 130 the object has an object specific luminescence spectral pattern —, — a light source 110 consisting of at least two illuminants 111 , 112 , 113 , 114 , 115 and configured to illuminate the scene comprising the object to be recognized by switching between the two illuminants, the scene being a sensor 120 configured to capture luminance data of a scene comprising an object when illuminated by a light source, a data storage unit 150 comprising fluorescence spectral patterns along with appropriately assigned individual objects, a scene extracting an object-specific fluorescence spectral pattern from the luminance data of and a data processing unit 140 configured to identify the assigned object.
