A short circuit protection apparatus, a short circuit protection method, and a photovoltaic power generation system, relating to the technical field of photovoltaic power generation. The short circuit protection apparatus (200) comprises: an interface, a protection switch, a direct current bus, and a controller; the short circuit protection apparatus (200) is connected to at least two photovoltaic units by means of the interface, the at least two photovoltaic units being connected in parallel to the direct current bus inside the short circuit protection apparatus (200) to form at least two branches, at least one photovoltaic unit being connected to each branch; the protection switch, when disconnected, is used for making at most three photovoltaic units be directly connected in parallel to the direct current bus inside the short circuit protection apparatus (200); and the controller is used for controlling the protection switch to disconnect when the reverse current of a branch is greater than a first current value. Using the short circuit protection apparatus (200) enables the photovoltaic units and wiring to be effectively protected when a photovoltaic unit has a short circuit or the wiring has a short circuit, and the power consumption thereof is low.
