Compositions, products and methods relating to promoting neurogenesis or nerve regeneration of the mammalian nervous system are provided. Embodiments relate to the use of a group of compounds containing crizotinib (Cri), flurbiprofen, lithium chloride (Li), vitamin C (VC), ceritinib (Cer), or pirfenidone (PFD). In certain embodiments, glial cells are converted to functional neurons.
