A method for producing a polyphenylene sulfide resin and a polyphenylene sulfide resin produced thereby are provided. In such a production method, a sulfur-containing compound, a basic substance and p-dichlorobenzene are used as raw materials, a fatty acid is used as a polycondensation aid, a polycondensation reaction is carried out, and a primary product of a polyphenylene sulfide resin is obtained after purification treatment. The polyphenylene sulfide resin is produced by reacting with a terminal group modifier at a high temperature. This production method has a high yield and a low cost, and the obtained polyphenylene sulfide resin has a high reaction activity, a high melting and crystallization temperature, and excellent heat resistance. The polyphenylene sulfide resin is used as it is for extrusion and injection, and is particularly suitable for fields such as automobile parts, electronic / electrical equipment, chemical industry, and machine industry.
