Multidimensional cell culture apparatus and method

The present invention discloses devices and methods for multidimensional cell culture, more specifically three-dimensional (3D) and four-dimensional (4D) devices and methods. The devices and methods of the present invention involve growing cells as spheroids/tissueoids on nonwoven scaffolds to create 3D tissue-like structures. The fourth dimension is provided by the system's ability to generate 3D tissueoids in a much shorter period of time, and by the ability to grow over long periods of one year or more. The present invention also provides methods of use for the assay of cell-drug sensitivity of the device. The present invention also provides a device for characterizing cell growth and drug sensitivity.
