A system for transferring rod-shaped articles includes a conveyor band including a reservoir for holding a plurality of rod-shaped articles and a seat suitable for receiving rod-shaped articles from the reservoir. The system further includes a speed compensator for compensating for speed fluctuations in a portion of the conveyor band so that the speed of the other portion of the conveyor band remains constant. An arrangement is also provided for retaining rod-shaped articles within the conveyor band. The arrangement includes a conveyor wheel, wherein sheets can be guided within the conveyor band around the conveyor wheel, and an offset conveyor band arranged at a distance parallel to the conveyor band along a portion of the conveyor band. The distance is suitable for the offset conveyor band to contact rod-shaped articles in a seat of the conveyor band along a portion of the conveyor band, wherein the portion of the conveyor band comprises at least a portion of the conveyor band guided around the conveyor wheel.
