Decentralized fog-based infrastructure for firmware security integrity verification to improve physical, operational, and functional security of Internet of Things (IoT) systems. a new and non-obvious computer program product and system for securing the firmware of an Internet of Things (IoT) instrumented device. According to one embodiment of the invention, a method of securing an IoT instrumented device includes detecting a change in installed firmware representative of a replacement of installed firmware with replacement firmware. The method further includes comparing differences in programmatic guidelines between two different firmware versions: a previous release of currently running firmware and a different new firmware release. Finally, the method involves transmitting an alert message to an operator upon detection of a threshold difference in at least one of the programmatic directives. Fig. 1
