High molecular weight polyamides and copolyamides with uniform RV and low gel content

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a customizable polyamide polymer having a high molecular weight, excellent color and low gel content, particularly nylon 66, nylon 6, and copolyamide. Relative viscosities greater than 50 as measured in 90% formic acid solution; stable viscosities with a standard deviation of less than 1; gel content less than 50 ppm as measured by insolubles greater than 10 microns; optical control. A polyamide polymer having an optical defect content of less than 2,000 ppm as measured by the system (OCS) is disclosed. The polymer can be molded into monofilament or multifilament yarn. Also disclosed are methods of producing polymers using in-line vacuum finishing techniques in the absence of water vapor or other gases in the second or post-condensation process of the polymer process.
