A portable work lamp is disclosed having a lighting fixture with one or more degrees of freedom of rotation that is operable to allow a lamp thereof to maintain optimal lighting for a target in a work environment. In particular, the portable work lamp is advantageously designed to track the location of a target person in the work environment and to automatically reorient the lighting fixture as required in order to maintain the optimal illumination of the work area for the target person. In this way, the non-value-adding work of repositioning and reorienting the work lamp is eliminated, thereby improving the productivity of the target person at the workplace.
