Disclosed in the present application are a directional coupler and a method for adjusting the directivity of the directional coupler. The directional coupler has an input terminal, an output terminal, an isolation terminal, and a coupling terminal. The output terminal of an adjustment circuit is coupled to a signal transmission line of the coupling terminal and/or a signal transmission line of the isolation terminal. The adjustment circuit comprises a control module that outputs a pulse signal of a corresponding frequency and/or duty cycle according to control program instructions. A program control module outputs pulse signals of different frequencies and/or duty cycles to the coupling terminal or the isolation terminal, so that different voltages and currents may be obtained so as to control the on-resistance of the signal transmission line to optimize the directivity of the directional coupler. Compared to the mechanical potentiometer in the prior art, the anti-vibration ability and service life of the directional coupler are improved, the failure risk of a communication system is greatly reduced, and subsequent maintenance costs are saved.
