The method comprises: after a battery is fully charged for the first time during a charging process, stopping charging the battery, and carrying out repeated charging on the battery in a primary protection mode, wherein the electric quantity of the battery in the primary protection mode is greater than or equal to a first electric quantity; and when a trigger event for switching a protection mode is detected, carrying out repeated charging on the battery in a secondary protection mode, wherein the electric quantity of the battery in the secondary protection mode is less than or equal to a second electric quantity, and the second electric quantity is less than the first electric quantity. Therefore, battery protection can be realized on a mobile terminal that does not support charging path management, thereby preventing a battery life from being shortened due to battery degradation because a battery is in the state of being repeatedly charged when having a high electric quantity for a long time.
