A vacuum generating apparatus utilizing the venturi effect is disclosed, which has a prime mover passage converging toward a suction chamber, an exhaust passage diverging away from the suction chamber, and a suction passage, all of which are in fluid communication with the suction chamber. The motive passage has a single inlet and is subdivided downstream thereof into a plurality of sub-passages, each leading to one of a plurality of motive outlets, which are spaced apart from the exhaust inlet of the exhaust passage to form a venturi gap. A flap having a plurality of lips extending between the outer surface of the substantially conical main body and the inner surface of the drive passage is disposed in the drive passage. The ribs divide the prime mover passageway into a plurality of subchannels, each converging fluid flow over their outer surface toward one of the plurality of primeval outlets.
