Aspects of the present disclosure involve systems, methods, and devices for mitigating Lidar cross-talk. In accordance with some embodiments, the lidar system is configured to include one or more noise source detectors that detect noise signals that may generate noise in return signals received at the lidar system. The noise source detector includes an optical sensor that receives a noise signal generated by the noise source, and a timing circuit that provides a timing signal indicative of the direction of the noise source with respect to an autonomous vehicle equipped with a lidar system. The noise source may be an external lidar system, or a surface in the surrounding environment that is reflecting optical signals such as those emitted by the external lidar system.
