The invention relates to a method for providing error data, having the following steps in order to allow a comprehensive analysis of the error data: - receiving a respective error data set from a plurality of motor vehicles (4) by means of a database device (2), each error data set of the motor vehicles (4) containing error data from different control devices (6) of the respective motor vehicle (4), - classifying the error data sets into different classes using a respective error key which is determined according to a specified rule, - receiving request data from a request unit (11), said request data containing a request key which is determined according to the same specified rule as the error key, and - transmitting a response data set with selected error data sets to the request unit (11), wherein the selected error data sets contained in the response data set are selected on the basis of the respective class and the request key from all of the classified error data sets, and the selected error data sets originate at least partly from different motor vehicles (4) of the plurality of motor vehicles.
