According to at least one aspect of the present disclosure, a method of treating a heavy oil comprises introducing the heavy oil to a hydroprocessing unit, wherein the hydroprocessing unit comprises contacting the heavy oil feed with a HDM catalyst, an HDS catalyst and an HDA catalyst, thereby carrying out hydrogenation It may be operated to hydrotreat the heavy oil to form a treated effluent.
