A placement head (130) is described for automatically placing electronic components (195) on a component carrier (190). The placement head (130) has (a) a chassis (132); a first rotor assembly (240) which is rotatably mounted relative to the chassis (132) about a first axis of rotation (336) and which has a first number of first handling devices (242a-h); and a second rotor arrangement (250) which is rotatably mounted relative to the chassis (132) about a second axis of rotation (336) and which has a second number of second handling devices (252a-h). Each handling device (242a-h, 252a-h, 442) comprises a quill (447) to which a component holding device (448) for temporarily picking up a component (195) can be attached, and a drive device (445, 446) with a Linear drive (445) for moving the quill (447) along its longitudinal axis and a rotary drive (446) for rotating the quill (447) about its longitudinal axis.
