The present invention relates to the field of air conditioners, and specifically provided are a hot water air conditioning unit of an air-cooled heat pump and a control method therefor. The present invention aims to solve the problem in which it is difficult for existing air conditioning units to determine whether limescale generated thereby causes the unit to fail to operate normally. For such purpose, the air conditioning unit according to the present invention comprises a water inlet, a water outlet, a compressor, a temperature detection component provided at the water outlet, and a current detection component provided at an input circuit of the compressor. The control method comprises: controlling a temperature detection component to obtain the water discharge temperature T of a water outlet; controlling a circuit detection component to obtain the current I of an input circuit of a compressor; acquiring a standard current I0 in the case of the water discharge temperature T of the water outlet; determining the magnitude of I and I0; and when I>I0, issuing a prompt to clean the limescale. The present invention can determine the cleanliness of an air conditioner according to the change in an input current relative to a standard input current under the same water discharge temperature conditions so as to determine whether limescale needs to be cleaned.
