The present disclosure provides a genetic polymorphism associated with changes in the response of the subject to sigma-1 receptor therapy. The use of polymorphisms that personalize therapy for subjects requiring sigma-1 receptor therapy, such as nerve development and neurodegenerative disease and treatment of States, is also described.
