A method performed by a wireless device WD includes receiving a control message. The control message indicates at least a scaling factor and a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) for the downlink shared channel. The scaling factor indicates a value less than 1. The method further includes determining a transport block size (TBS) based on the MCS and the scaling factor indicated in the control message. A method performed by a network node includes indicating in a control message a scaling factor and a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) for at least a downlink shared channel. The scaling factor indicates a value less than 1. The method further comprises sending the control message to a user equipment (UE), wherein the control message enables determination of a transport block size (TBS) for a shared downlink channel.
