The present invention relates to polymeric complexes of luminescent lanthanides, consisting of at least one lanthanide salt, at least one organic ligand (low molecular weight aromatic hydrocarbons, equal or different from each other) and a polymeric matrix, with ideal optical conditions for counterfeit detection applications, being possible to be used in cellulosic matrices as a guarantee of security and authenticity, thus constituting tools for the detection of counterfeit. Also described in this document, are three methods for applying polymeric complexes and two procedures for ensuring security / counterfeit detection using the complexes and corresponding functionalized matrices.
