The present invention comprises: identification mechanisms 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 that, when separation columns 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 are installed at installation positions, reads identifiers 401 provided to the separation columns 10, 11, 12, 13, 14; a computer 4 that assesses whether identification information of the identifiers 401 read by the identification mechanisms 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 match an installation pattern registered in advance; and a display unit 2 that issues a warning when the computer 4 has assessed that the identification information does not match the installation pattern. There is thereby provided a method for installing separation columns in an automated analyzer that performs chromatographic analysis using a plurality of types of separation columns for different purposes, the automated analyzer making it possible to install intended types of analyzers at targeted positions.
