The motorized air purification respirator includes an inlet air filter; a flow generator configured to cause air from an ambient environment to flow through the inlet air filter and to raise a pressure of the air above ambient conditions; a mask in fluid communication with the flow generator and configured to fit against a user's face or neck to deliver air to the user at an elevated pressure; and a one-way outlet valve configured to exhaust air exhaled by the user into the surrounding environment. An outlet filter may be included to filter air flowing through the one-way outlet valve, and the outlet filter may be retrofitted. Said outlet filter may be desirable when filtration of both inlet and outlet air is required.
