A catalyst for the low-temperature plasma catalytic conversion of a gaseous alkane and a preparation method therefor. The catalyst is composed of a metal having an active site and a matrix material that provides an acidic site and a porous structure, the matrix material being a molecular sieve (HZSM-5, UZSM-5), an oxide (SiO2, Al2O3, TiO2, and ZrO2), a sulfide (MoS2), activated carbon, and carbon nitride (C3N4). The metal having an active site is one among or a mixture of multiple Ag, Pt, Pd, Ga, Zn and Ti, and the load of each metal on the matrix material is 0.1-10% of the mass of the matrix material. The catalyst prepared may achieve at low temperature and normal pressure the low-temperature plasma catalytic conversion of a gaseous alkane (a C1-C5 monomer or a mixture of two or more) into a liquid alkane (a C6-C12 alkane containing a branched chain) or a chemical having a high added value, and simultaneously produces less coke.
